The research, plainly
Milgram's obedience studies revealed authority's raw force; Cialdini catalogued its everyday levers — titles, credentials, symbols, and the treatment a context gives someone all confer deference, often before a word of substance lands.

What it means for events
Authority is partly built in the intro. The credentialed bio delivered well, the title card, the staging, the host's evident respect — the room decides how much to believe the speaker before the speaker speaks. Produce the authority, then let the content spend it.
Where to run it
Speaker introductions
Never let experts introduce themselves — the borrowed voice establishing credentials is worth more than modesty.
Staging
The considered set, the professional confidence monitor moment, the deliberate walk-on: stagecraft is credibility infrastructure.
Content strategy
Third-party validators — analysts, researchers, customers — say what self-claims can't. Rent authority where you lack it.
