Framing

Same facts, different words, different decision.

The research, plainly

Tversky and Kahneman's disease-outbreak experiments showed identical outcomes flipping preferences when described as lives saved versus lives lost. The information was constant; the frame drove the decision.

The receipt: Tversky & Kahneman, 1981

What it means for events

Every stat in your deck and every line in your invitation is a frame choice. Show rate or no-show rate, cost or investment, risk of acting or risk of waiting — the numbers won't decide which; you will, or chance will.

Where to run it

Invitations

'Join the 90% of your peers who attend' and 'don't be in the 10% who miss it' are the same fact wearing different clothes. Test both.

Executive readouts

Frame event ROI against the cost of inaction — pipeline not created — not just against the budget line.

Change events

Frame the new way as what's gained by moving and what's lost by staying. One frame alone leaves half the motivation unclaimed.

Seen in the wild

Public-health messaging discovered decades ago that survival framing and mortality framing move different behaviors from identical statistics — the field of message testing exists because framing effects never stopped replicating.
