The research, plainly
Mehrabian and Russell's environmental psychology model showed that spaces work on us through pleasure and arousal — how good and how activated a setting makes us feel — and that behavior follows: we approach, linger, and engage in environments tuned to the task, and withdraw from ones that fight it.

What it means for events
Light is the cheapest behavior dial in the building. Dim and warm opens people up for conversation and candor; bright and dynamic activates them for movement and decisions. The lighting console is running the room's nervous system.
Where to run it
Session transitions
Shift the light state between segments — the change itself tells brains 'new chapter' and re-wins attention.
Networking hours
Warm, dim, pools of light around gathering points. Bright flat light kills conversation faster than bad music.
Decision moments
Bring the lights up for the vote, the commitment, the signing. Alertness is part of consent.
