Plan With a Partner

Plans made with another person get done more often than plans made alone.

The research, plainly

Prestwich's studies on collaborative implementation intentions found pairs who formed plans together — and checked on each other — outperforming solo planners significantly. The partner adds social stakes, reminders, and a witness to the intention.

What it means for events

The cheapest follow-through system at any event is already in the room: another attendee. Pair people at the close, have them exchange plans and check-in dates, and each becomes the other's accountability infrastructure — no app required.

Where to run it

Closing ritual

Structured pairing: exchange written plans, exchange contacts, book the Day-14 check-in before leaving the seats.

Cohort programs

Standing accountability pairs across a program — the relationship compounds and so does the completion rate.

Internal events

Manager-report or peer-peer plan exchanges: the commitment said to a colleague survives contact with the calendar.

Seen in the wild

Weight Watchers built decades of results substantially on the meeting and the partner — group accountability as the product — and running clubs everywhere prove the mundane magic: the person expecting you is the reason you showed.
